De Bethune Exhibition

In 2002, when David Zanetta, a collector with a passion for art, history and timepieces, decided to join forces in founding De Bethune with Denis Flageollet, the son, grandson and great-grandson of watchmakers, they were both keenly aware of sharing the same vision of tomorrow’s watchmaking. In 2014, De Bethune won the prize of the best chronograph at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix for its DB29 Maxichrono Tourbillon and his award-winning watch will be on display at Oriental Watch Company, 100 Queen’s Road C., Central on October 1st to 31st.

Exhibition date: October 1st – 30st , 2015

The GS is a DB28: a true De Bethune creation. The DB28 GS expresses a bold character revealed through both its aesthetic and technical attributes. It fully complies with the strict rule of wearer comfort that De Bethune applies to its models. It owes this exceptional comfort to a combination between the lightness of the titanium case, the softness of its hand-polished finish, the 12 o’clock crown position, and above all the presence of the patented floating lugs system that adapts to wrist size and movements. A natural rubber strap featuring a microlight motif, a first among the brand’s collections, also contributes to making it extremely pleasant to wear.

The DB28 GS proudly displays impeccable water resistance to depths corresponding to three full leagues under the sea. Its DB2115 calibre is equipped with a self-regulating twin barrel ensuring a 6-day power reserve – a performance that can be tracked by means of a blue indicator at 3 o’clock. The presence of the silicon/white gold balance wheel and balance-spring with flat terminal curve ensures the ideal inertia-mass ratio for an optimal frequency of 28,800 vph suited to wristwatches.

The GS was designed by David Zanetta and Denis Flageollet; it was thought out and developed in the R&D lab in La Chaux, and then entirely crafted in the workshops at L’Auberson.

Skybridge embodies the entire repertoire of the Manufacture De Bethune.

While classically inspired in terms of its round shape, its 12 o’clock crown and its hunter-type back borrowed from pocket watches, the ultra-light mirror-polished titanium case of the DB28 with its distinctive floating lugs nonetheless proclaim the collection’s modern and indeed futuristic nature. A nocturnal window on infinity, Skybridge features a whole host of astonishing shimmering effects, in turn brilliant or intensely radiant with the blue that has been a House signature for the past thirteen years.

The DB29 Maxichrono Tourbillon, the result of seven years of research and development, is the only one of its kind. This exceptional patented chronograph, packed with innovations, embodies the essence of De Bethune’s watchmaking. The rose-gold case of the DB29 with its smooth curves features the brand’s trademark cone-shaped lugs. The double case back of this time-measuring instrument is fitted with an invisible hinge so as not to detract from its clean lines. A single push button, coaxial with the crown at 3 o’clock, operates the chronograph. The design of the DB29 Maxichrono Tourbillon’s dial with its five central hands aims to make it easier and more attractive to read the chronograph indications by doing away with the small subdials of the conventional chronograph. This instrument measures long elapsed times with counters for 60 seconds, 60 minutes and 24 hours. Thanks to the precision ensured by the De Bethune 30-second Tourbillon in silicon and titanium oscillating at a rate of 36,000 vibrations per hour – one of the fastest and lightest on the market with its 63 parts weighing a total of 0.18 grams – time is accurately measured and the maximum duration of elapsed-time measurements amounts to a generous 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59.9 seconds.

The characteristic aesthetic of the DB28 is enriched with a rose gold baguette-shaped insert adorning the minute hand. The distinctive shape of the mirror-polished titanium case, inspired by pocket watches, accentuated by the spherical moon phase and by the silicon/palladium balance, features an exhibition back revealing a finely decorated movement. These exceptional timepieces feature a pure style in which the taut lines, the exquisite hand-crafted finishes and the slenderness of the case combine with the technical innovations to offer a contemporary expression of the horological art according to De Bethune.
