Press conference of “Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday 2017"

Oriental Watch Company and The Hong Kong Jockey Club cordially invite horseracing enthusiasts and trendsetters to join the 2017 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy “Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday” on 22nd October 2017 at Sha Tin Racecourse in attires graced with a bow tie or bow-related elements. To officially announce the details of the event, a press conference was held at the Oriental Watch Company flagship store, 100 Queen’s Road Central, Hong Kong with the presence of the management of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, Cantopop group C AllStar, renowned local jockey Mr. Derek Leung, and renowned actress Ms Tracy Chu.

The press conference was commenced with a kick-off ceremony, in which Mr. Dennis Yeung, Managing Director of Oriental Watch Holdings Limited, and Mr. Anthony Kelly, Executive Director, Racing Business and Operations of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, joined hands to unveil the details of the 2017 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy “Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday” and announced the eight prestigious watch brands that would name the races after their brands. Cantopop group C AllStar, consisting of King Ng, On Chan, Andy Leung, and Jase Ho, dressed up in outfits graced with a unique bow tie, showcasing the versatility of bow tie as a trendy accessory, rather than merely a part of the formal dress code. The hostess then invited renowned actress Tracy Chu on stage to comment on the four gentlemen’s attires. Tracy praised highly of their attires for they showed delicacy, style and elegance, despite the varieties in their costumes. In return, C AllStar picked the Piaget Limelight Gala Silver for Tracy to match with her elegant and gracious look that day.

Furthermore, renowned local jockey Mr. Derek Leung was also invited to grace the press conference. Derek reached a personal record of 33 wins in the 2015/16 season and received the 2016/17 Tony Cruz Award as the leading home-grown rider, despite being side-lined with injuries during the season. Instead of the racing silk that we are used to seeing on a jockey, Derek dressed meticulously in a gentleman style outfit to attend the event, which delighted Tracy tremendously. Tracy and Derek also talked about the mentality and attitude as a professional jockey. After that Tracy presented a bow tie to Derek and his unborn child, which was from the Glorious Moments bow tie collection, designed by the talented bow tie designer Weixu Wang for the occasion. Derek recalled seeing many of his Owners and Trainers, including his mentor Paul O’Sullivan, wearing bow ties on last year’s “Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday”, so he would like to invite all of the guests to wear a bow tie and join the raceday on October 22. The ceremony came to a joyous completion with a toast by the officiating guests, wishing the 2017 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy “Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday” every success.

Mr. Dennis Yeung, Managing Director of Oriental Watch Holdings Limited, remarked, “This year’s theme is ‘Professionalism and Devotion, Key to Perfection’, which we honour with our dedication to top-notch service and commitment to our customers. We have also invited Weixu Wang, who is extremely passionate about designing bow ties, to join us this year, and design a collection of unique bow ties for the occasion, manifesting our beliefs. Proceeding from last year’s success, we are proud to present the 2017 Oriental Watch Sha Tin Trophy ‘Gentlemen’s Bow Tie Raceday’, offering a special occasion combining exciting horse races, chic fashion and mesmerising timepieces.”

Mr. Anthony Kelly, Executive Director, Racing Business and Operations of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, added, “This is the sixth consecutive year that Oriental Watch has supported the Sha Tin Trophy. The Hong Kong Jockey Club is glad to work with Oriental Watch Company once again to present the Oriental Watch Raceday, a day that the audience will witness the birth of champions, clashing on the road to Group 1 tests ahead.”
