The opening ceremony drew an impressive crowd of distinguished guests, including (From left to right) Mr Philip Chan, Director and former police officer; Mr Michael Hui; Mr Ti Lung, actor of A Better Tomorrow II; Mr Sunny Chan, Creative Director and Co-Curator of the exhibition; Mr Alex Cheung, director of Man on the Brink , Prof Kristof Van den Troost, Co-Curator of the exhibition; Prof Anna CY Chan, Board Member of Tai Kwun Culture and Arts Company Limited; Ms Chin Chin Teoh, Director of The Jockey Club CPS Limited; and Mr Dennis Yeung, Managing Director of Oriental Watch Company.
The Undercover Underworld exhibition will take visitors on a journey through 10 different scenes. The scenes recreate classic movie moments in an immersive installation, featuring manuscripts and interviews with film’s directors, actors and composers. The exhibition allows the audience to step into the undercover world from an actor's perspective, deeply exploring the psychological torment brought about by dual identities and the struggle to return to real life.
Highlights include: The iconic tea house from John Woo’s Hard Boiled, where police and gangsters engage in an intense chase and a series of climactic fight sequences, showcasing the director’s signature action aesthetics. In addition, beyond the retro window of the teahouse, you can also admire the neon lights of Oriental Watch Company, reminiscing about the dazzling and vibrant 90s in Hong Kong.
A scene from Ringo Lam’s City on Fire, featuring a fierce gunfight paired with immersive sound effects, places visitors right in the heart of the action.
The psychiatrist’s consulting room from Andrew Lau and Alan Mak’s Infernal Affairs, a key setting in unveiling an undercover agent’s mental turmoil.
The dramatic transformation of the gallery of the Duplex Studio into a 1990s action movie soundstage where visitors can choose to play a role on set or call the shots behind the camera from the Director’s Chair.
